Haiti disaster highlights challenges International Adoption

Thousands of Americans had to put their dream of Haitian adoption on hold while the Caribbean nation struggles to restore basic services and reunite families separated by the disaster.

With Haiti temporarily closed to new adoptions, some have turned elsewhere, to nations such as Ethiopia, China and Russia.

In Haiti Quakes Orphans Long For A Home

UNICEF estimates that more than 20,000 children lost their parents in the Jan. 12 quake and its aftermath.

Relatives or neighbors are caring for many of these children. Others, such as a group of boys in a Port-au-Prince park, are fending for themselves.

Haitian Ambassador We Had Been Expecting This Catastrophe

The poorly built homes, buildings and roads of Haiti were no match for the 7 magnitude quake that hit the country Tuesday afternoon.
