Motorists are driving less and buying less gas, which means fuel taxes aren't raising as much money for transit programs.

While Americans are managing their money more carefully and cutting down on fossil fuel consumption, the government is considering hiking the gas tax. Perhaps the government should just try managing its money better, too.
