A bomb scanner sold to dozens of countries has been shown to be useless at detecting explosives, the Thai government said, meaning thousands may have died needlessly in bomb attacks.

Experts have called the scanner little more than a car antenna mounted on a plastic box that is designed to act like a dowsing rod supposedly does in "finding" water.
