Nvidia Leads in Discrete Desktop GPU Market Share AMD in Notebook Graphics

According to the latest figures, Nvidia still dominates the discrete desktop GPU market and managed to grab a 59.4 percent share in the first quarter of 2011. That's a good clip higher than AMD, which served 40.6 percent of the discrete desktop GPU market in Q1, and had it not been for AMD's performance in notebook graphics, Nvidia would be sitting way out in front.

On a related side note, Nvidia recently licensed its SLI technology to AMD, and starting with the 990FX, 990X, and 970 chipsets, AMD system builders will finally be able to run multiple Nvidia graphics cards. While all parties stand to gain from this, Nvidia will likely benefit the most, at least in terms of further increasing its discrete desktop GPU market share.
