The late Steve Jobs was adamantly opposed to the idea of a 7-inch slate and called them "tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad." Due to his untimely death, Jobs never had a chance to see Amazon's 7-inch Kindle Fire device rapidly rise in ranks to become the world's second best selling tablet behind the iPad, but if he was alive today, would he change his stance?
Not likely. Apple hasn't skipped a beat since Jobs passed away, and while there have been rumors of a smaller sized iPad device , the Cupertino company may have found another way to compete with lower cost tablets. The PC and Mac clients will join the recently released iOS and Windows Phone offerings, and while the exact functionality they will offer is not known, we can only speculate it will only be storage access only, and not sync. Dropbox for example gives users the option to edit files offline, and then have them sync to the cloud and other devices when they come online. Microsoft's current sync offering comes in the form of Live Mesh, and is a completely separate offering from SkyDrive. Microsoft could merge these two services of course, and would be wise to do so,...

The FBI is currently scheduled to take several temporary DNS servers offline on March 8th; an action that could result in the disconnection of millions of Internet users. This dilemma stems from a nasty trojan that was circulating back in 2011 called DNSChanger. This bug was used to alter a user's DNS settings, and law enforcement used temporary DNS servers to give everyone time to fix the problem. Experts fear that many systems are still infected, and risk failure on March 8th.
DNSChanger used the modified DNS server settings to route users to malicious domains instead of the ones they intended to visit. The feds worked with Estonian authorities to apprehend the creators of DNSChnager, but that left millions of computers still infected. The fix was to set up a few DNS servers to intercept the traffic from these systems and keep the data flowing. Now that the servers are due to be taken offline, some people might suddenly have busted connections.

We've seen workstations before, and we've seen plenty of all-in-one PCs, but according to Hewlett-Packard, there has never been a 27-inch AIO that qualified as a workstation. Until now. HP claims its Z1 Workstation is the world's first to combine both types of systems into a 27-inch form factor, and what's more, the OEM says it's a snap to swap out parts without using any tools, a feature that's few and far between in the AIO sector, but critical if it's to be taken seriously as a workstation.
The Z1 can be configured with an Intel Core i3 2120, Xeon E3-1245, or Xeon E3-1280 processor. It supports up to 32GB of DDR3 memory, integrated and discrete level graphics , various HDD and SSD options, and up to a Blu-ray writer for optical duties. Up until late last week Windows 8 on ARM was a complete mystery. We know the product existed, that it would launch at some point in the future, and it would sport the Metro interface Microsoft has been showing off for almost a year now. Microsoft claims that all WOA-based systems will receive updates through traditional updating tools built into the OS, but we remain a bit skeptical. The BitTorrent community used to think that law enforcement had better things to do than hunt them down, but that all changed in mid-2005, when US-based EliteTorrents was raided by the FBI and ICE. The site had over 130,000 users, and was run by a small number of dedicated staff, including one 19 year-old who recently spoke about the ordeal. He gives a peek inside the first big Torrent bust of what has become an ongoing war on piracy for US law enforcement.
May 25th 2005 was the day the FBI and ICE went after EliteTorrents. After shutting down the site, agents arrived at the homes of the EliteTorrent staff, StonyVision included. StonyVision is the first to admit he was lucky to get a sympathetic judge, and was able to avoid jail time. He payed a $3500 fine, served 6-months house arrest, and 3-years of probation in which he was unable to touch a computer.
